The Joe Mann mine of Campbell Resources (TSE), southwest of Chibougamau, Que., produced 64,100 oz. gold and 1.1 million lb. copper during the first nine months of 1991, the company reports.
For the same period last year, Joe Mann produced 49,000 oz. gold and 987,000 lb. copper.
Campbell, part of the Northgate group, attributes improved output to increases in the tonnage and average grade of ore mined and to higher mill recoveries. Mine workers have switched from the predominant use of the longhole mining method to the shrinkage method.
Direct cash costs during the 9-month period averaged US$251 per oz., down from US$299 for the same period in 1990.
The new shaft at Joe Mann will be deepened from 2,010 ft. to 2,700 ft. During the third quarter of 1991, Richard Lister retired as Campbell chairman. He was appointed honorary chairman and will continue to sit on the board of directors.
Campbell recorded earnings of $2.3 million for the nine months compared with $1.9 million for the same period in 1991.
