Judge agrees to delay Hemlo mine transfer

A stay of execution has been granted Lac Minerals in the Page Williams gold mine transfer by Justice Alvin B. Rosenberg of the Supreme Court of Ontario, pending Lac’s application for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada, which is expected to be heard in early December.

The ruling means Lac will continue to operate the mine located at Hemlo in northern Ontario under the same conditions imposed following the original court decision awarding the mine to International Corona Resources. Lac appealed that decision to the Ontario Court of Appeal and subsequently lost. Next step in the appeal process is to seek leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
