Junior explores near Tulawaka

Junior Exploration Minires du Nord (MDN-T) has begun a soil geochemical survey over two newly acquired permits in the Lake Victoria Goldfields district of Tanzania.

Minires can earn 90% interests in the so-called Baraka licences, which abut the northeastern corner of the company’s 30%-owned Tulawaka gold property. Combined, the licences cover 45 sq. km.

Drilling will likely begin later in the year.

Meanwhile, at Tulawaka, majority partner Barrick Gold (abx-t) recently began drill-testing five new gold targets. The targets were discovered during a property-wide geochemical survey and a re-interpretation of known geophysical results.

Barrick also is delineating the West zone. It lies 3 km west of the larger and more advanced East zone, where a feasibility study is under way.

At last report, the East zone hosted 2.2 million tonnes grading 11.12 grams gold per tonne, based on a cutoff grade of 1 gram. When the cutoff is doubled, the resource falls to 1.7 million tonnes grading 14.19 grams.

Mineralization is hosted by three gold-bearing quartz veins that strike for a combined length of about 1 km. The zone has been traced to a depth of 200 metres below surface.
