Narrow intercepts with some strong nickel-copper-cobalt values have been found in core from the NOT No. 3 property in the Okak South region of Labrador.
The property, shared equally by Noront Resources (NOT-V) and Golden Trump Resources (GTZ-V), is 80 km north of the original Voisey’s Bay deposit, now owned by Inco.
Drill hole 96-1 intersected narrow bands of massive sulphides (chiefly pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite) in two zones. The upper structure, known as the A zone, correlates with geophysical survey anomalies and is represented in hole 1 by two sulphide layers with assay intervals of 0.23 metre grading 1.1% nickel, 0.37% copper and 0.08% cobalt, plus 0.44 metre grading 1.06% nickel, 0.73% copper and 0.08% cobalt.
The B zone is represented by two narrow sulphide intersections with assay intervals of 0.91 metre grading 1% nickel, 0.36% copper and 0.12% cobalt, plus 0.35 metre grading 0.82% nickel, 0.58% copper and 0.08% cobalt.
Hole 96-2, drilled vertically from the same location as hole 96-1, tested the westward downdip extension of sulphides intersected in the first hole. One assay revealed a 6.4-metre interval in the A zone grading 0.82% nickel, 0.48% copper and 0.06% cobalt. Within that interval were 2.28 metres of 1.98% nickel, 1.03% copper and 0.16% cobalt, plus 1.02 metres of 0.77% nickel, 0.46% copper and 0.03% cobalt.
Individual assays reached highs of 2.1% nickel, 1.5% copper and 0.14% cobalt in four samples from the massive sulphide interval. The sulphides are interpreted to lie within near-horizontal layers; thus these intersections are close to true widths.
Hole 96-3, drilled vertically, has been completed to a total depth of 401 metres. It intersected sulphide bands of pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite, which appear to represent the eastern edge of the A zone mineralization.
Hole 96-4, drilled vertically, intersected a 2.8-metre, sulphide-bearing interval in the A zone, including 1.8 metres of massive sulphides containing pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. The hole was abandoned at a depth of 157 metres, owing to freezing.
Assay results from holes 96-3 and 96-4 are expected shortly, as are gold, platinum and palladium analyses from holes 96-1 and 96-2. Based on positive results from the first drill phase, a second phase has been proposed.
