Juniors evaluate Lynn Lake ground

Partners Thunderwood Resources (THS-T) and Consolidated Abitibi Resources (CAQ-M) have begun testing the Sherlynn copper-zinc-silver-gold project near Lynn Lake, Man.

The program is part of a long-term effort to evaluate 46 base metal properties covering 280,000 acres in the Flin Flon-Snow Lake, Hanson Lake and Lynn Lake mining camps of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The land package, previously owned by Granges, was acquired more than a year ago by Aur Resources (AUR-T). Both Thunderwood and Abitibi can acquire a 30% interest from Aur by spending $5 million apiece on exploration by early 1999.

Aur, which shares directors with the two juniors, will operate the programs.

With a budget of $355,000, the program at the 1,389-ha Sherlynn property will consist of 85 km of ground magnetometer and deep electromagnetic (EM) surveys, plus 1,800 metres of diamond drilling in five holes along with downhole-pulse EM surveys.

The Sherlynn property contains two base metal sulphide zones hosted in a thick sequence of felsic-to-mafic volcanic rocks and flows. The Goodenough zone, which was defined by previous drilling, contains 330,000 tons grading 1.5 grams gold and 24.9 grams silver per ton, plus 2.5% copper and 0.6% zinc.

The Barbara Lake zone has been defined by seven holes over a strike length of 1,000 ft. and to a depth of about 400 ft. Significant intersections from past drilling include 2.8% zinc over 20 ft., 20.7 ft. and 11.6 ft., in separate holes.

The current program is aimed at increasing reserves at the Barbara Lake and Goodenough zones, and identifying new mineralization.

Next year, Thunderwood and Abitibi will spend $4 million exploring various properties in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The programs will include 55,000 ft.

of drilling, including more work at Sherlynn. Geophysical and geological surveys will also be conducted, in an attempt to define future drill targets.
