Large-diameter drilling by
Vertical drill holes along a 600-metre strike length intersected the 6-metre-thick dyke at a depth of around 30 metres. One of six 30-kg samples from the drill holes returned one macrodiamond and six micros.
About 500 metres south-southwest of the diamond showing, the dyke intersects several other dykes in an area with abundant kimberlite indicator minerals in the overburden. Reasoning that the intersection is a likely location for a kimberlite pipe, the company plans to drill the target. There are also plans to drill another kimberlite intrusion, to the west of the dyke showing that was revealed in a reconnaissance reverse-circulation (RC) drilling program.
At Southern Africa’s Molopo property, 500 km west-southwest of Mosomane, two of six planned reverse-circulation holes being drilled by
Layfield’s second RC hole encountered kimberlite at a depth of 48 metres and stopped in kimberlite at 122 metres. The magnetic anomaly that was targeted for drilling suggests the kimberlite may be about 10 ha in area.
The third hole tested one of a cluster of 13 magnetic anomalies and intersected kimberlite at 96 metres. Layfield is continuing the third RC hole to a depth of 150 metres for initial sampling.
Layfield is earning a 75% interest from Southern Africa by spending US$5 million on exploration of Molopo over the next four years and issuing 1 million shares. It also is to return 500,000 shares it holds in Southern Africa Minerals.
