Canada, Australia and Finland head the list of countries expected to participate in KazMin & KazMet 2001, Kazakstan’s seventh conference on mining, exploration and related equipment.

About 5,000 visitors from more than 25 countries are to attend the event, slated for Sept. 5-6 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Almaty.

The country’s mining and metallurgy industry is poised for significant growth, reflecting the expansion of existing mines and exploration for new deposits.

India to exhibit mining equipment

About one-third of India’s mining machinery is imported, and to highlight this significant market, the Confederation of Indian Industry has organized the sixth International Mining & Machinery Exhibition (IMME). The event will be held Nov. 6-9 in Calcutta.

The IMME is held every three years. The last featured 108 exhibitors, including the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export, and was held in New Delhi. It attracted roughly 5,000 visitors, half of whom came from Calcutta, the centre of India’s mining supply sector.

With coal, iron-ore, limestone and non-ferrous mines, India has a rich mineral base. Annual production exceeds US$9 billion, contributing 3.5% to the gross domestic product. In recent years, the lowering of tariffs on the importation of mineral products has helped accelerate modernization in the industry.
