Kennecott forms new team

Vancouver — A long-term deal inked by Kennecott Exploration and Geoinformatics Exploration (GXL-V) is expected to generate exploration targets on the former’s land holdings in the Western Cordillera.

Geoinformatics, based in Oakville, Ont., and previously known as Fractal Graphics, produces models of ore deposits.

The companies entered into a 27-year agreement giving Geoinformatics access to Kennecott’s data and geochemical samples. Kennecott and its predessor companies in the Rio Tinto (rtp-n) group collected the samples over 50 years over large parts of British Columbia, the Yukon and Alaska.

Geoinformatics has the exclusive right to assess and acquire interests in Kennecott’s advanced exploration properties in British Columbia and the Yukon, as well as the right to create geological models based on data obtained from the major.

Geoinformatics was originally based in Perth, Western Australia and is currently engaged in projects with Anglo American (AAUK-Q), Gold Fields (GFI-N) and Goldcorp (G-T). Goldcorp in turn owns about 7% of Geoinformatics.
