Kimberlite float found at Star

A sub-surface layer of till containing kimberlite float boulders has been uncovered by Ashton Mining of Canada (ACA-T) at the Star joint-venture property in the Northwest Territories.

The junior diamond explorer made the discovery while conducting follow-up prospecting and hand trenching in an area where two till samples each contained more than 10,000 kimberlite indicator minerals, some with fresh abrasion marks. The till samples were collected last year near the down-ice end of a linear depression, which measures 350 metres long and 60 metres wide. The depression terminates in a lake at its up-ice end.

Roughly 100 kg of the kimberlite boulders will be analyzed for microdiamonds at Ashton’s laboratory in North Vancouver. Results are expected in mid-August.

A detailed grid of till sampling and limited ground geophysical surveying have been completed in an effort to trace the source of the boulders.

Situated 140 km north of Yellowknife, the Star property is held 56% by Ashton, 24% by Pure Gold Minerals (PUG-T) and 20% by Tenajon Resources (TJS-V).
