LATIN AMERICA — Bahuerachi drilling intersects copper in Mexico

Diamond drilling on the Bahuerachi copper oxide property in Mexico has yielded favorable results for equal partners Golden Rule Resources (GNU-T) and Tyler Resources (TYS-T).

Situated in southwestern Chihuahua state, the 3,000-ha property was recently subjected to 18 drillholes in a 1,509-metre program. All the holes were collared to test the Main zone skarn, with the vertical depth of drilling ranging from 27 to 117 metres.

Select results from the first 10 holes include: hole 1, which intersected 39.95 metres (from 0.6 to 40.55 metres) of 1.11% copper; hole 10, which hit 8.84 metres (from 3.96 to 12.8 metres) grading 2.34% copper and 3.05 metres (from 31.4 to 34.45 metres) of 1.45% copper; hole 2, which returned 0.7% copper over 46.26 metres (from 23.12 to 69.38 metres); and hole 14, which yielded 7.94 metres (from 0.6 to 8.54 metres) grading 1.42% copper.

Interest in Bahuerachi dates back 200 years, when Spanish colonists explored the area for precious metals.

In the early 1990s, the Guggenheim Company worked underground on the Main zone skarn and reported surface oxide grades of 3% copper, with sulphides grading 2% copper, as well as 142 grams silver and 3 grams gold per tonne.

In the early 1970s, Asarco carried out wide-spaced drilling, which identified skarn, disseminated oxide and supergene sulphide mineralization. The program focused on an altered andesitic unit in contact with the skarn and to the immediate east, with two holes returning 0.55% copper over 23.4 metres and 0.63% copper over 35.9 metres. A third hole returned 39 metres of 1.2% copper in skarn.

In the 1980s, a Canadian company took 32 surface samples from the skarn zone.

Results from these samples averaged 2.2% copper.

Prior to its own drill program, Tyler channel-sampled all the drill access roads on the Main zone. Results from 134 samples, representing 486 metres, averaged 1.33% copper. Based on all available data, the oxide mineralization would seem to be open in all directions, in both the skarn and andesites. In addition, a new zone of oxide mineralization has been identified in skarn and feldspar porphyry east of the area recently drilled. Surface trenching exposed this zone along a 200-metre strike length and a width ranging from 16.5 to 40 metres. Results from trench samples are still pending.
