Canarc Resource (CCM-T) has started a 10-hole diamond drill program to test the depth potential of gold mineralization in laterite at its Sara Kreek property in Suriname.
Trenching and auger drilling have outlined two zones at the property, which lies 180 km southeast of Parimaribo and 90 km south of the Gross Rosebel property, where Cambior (CBJ-T) is completing a feasibility study to acquire a 50% interest from Golen Star Resources (GSC-T). At the Breakfast prospect, 12 auger holes showed grades ranging from 2.5 to 12.8 grams gold per tonne in a series of shear zones covering a 100-metre width at surface over at least a 200-metre strike length. Mineralized zones encountered in the auger drilling were 3 to 14 metres long and occurred at depths ranging from 3 to 157 metres.
At the Parbo prospect, eight auger holes encountered mineralization, with gold grades varying from 1 to 38.9 grams in a 100-by-100 metre area. Trenches at surface have revealed mineralized shear zones 2 to 40 metres wide grading between 1 and 24 grams gold.
About 2.5 km east of the two prospects, a third target, called the Parrot anomaly, is being tested by auger drilling. Parrot is in an area with elevated gold concentrations in residual tropical soils, and a small creek crossing the area was worked by placer miners in the past. Ten auger holes are planned, though more could be added if results prove encouraging.
