LATIN AMERICA — Pacific acquires gold property

The Diablillos gold project is the second property recently acquired by Pacific Rim Mining (VSE) in Argentina. The first was La Colorada, a Sedex-type, massive sulphide prospect near the Aquilar district.

Diablillos, 96 miles southwest of Salta, in northeastern Argentina, was previously explored by BHP-Utah Mines. That company spent US$1.4 million on mapping, geochemical sampling and a 55-hole program. Eight mineralized zones were identified, four of which have an estimated drill-inferred reserve of 4.2 million tons of 0.07 oz. gold and 3.8 oz. silver per ton. Pacific Rim hopes to spend US$1.5 million over four months to bring current reserves to a drill-indicated level. It believes the epithermal deposit will be amenable to bulk-mining and heap leaching.
