A wholly owned Chilean subsidiary of Minproc Engineers Inc. of Denver has been awarded a lump sum turnkey contract for the design and construction of an oxide ore treatment plant in the South American country.
Minproc says the contract, with Sociedad Punta del Cobre, is the first of its kind in Chile for a copper leach, solvent extraction-electrowinning facility.
The facility, to be built near Copiapo in northern Chile, will treat 36,000 tonnes of oxidized ore per month and produce 7,000 tonnes per year of LME Grade A cathode copper. The plant will be designed for a 12-year life.
