The Northern Miner some months ago carried a letter from Ken Swanson, who describes the merits of Cambrian College. A subsequent letter from A. D. Hellens, presented the outstanding credentials and achievements of the Haileybury School of Mines.
I too would like to defend the renowned Haileybury School. It is as famous in the mining world as the Colorado School of Mines, or the Columbia University School of Mines, the McKay School of Mines in Nevada, or the Royal School of Mines in London.
My suggestion to Mr Swanson is that if Cambrian has two direct computer courses, and 50 to 60 personal computers as well as two separate programs (mining and metallurgy), it may be a good idea to imitate Haileybury and give students some sort of combined total of both.
My suggestion to Haileybury is that if the addition of more computer courses would better prepare students for careers in mining, then this should be considered.
The mining industry should support Haileybury. Its loss would leave a hole no other institution would be able to fill. Gerald Ellis Santo Domingo Dominican Republic
