Letters to the Editor Eliminate the Commissar of Mines’

No doubt you tell yourself handouts for your industry are for “the good of the people.” Every self-interest group says that. You can see how wrong it is if there are one, 10 or a hundred special interest groups who all have their hands in their neighbors’ (taxpayers’) pockets. It is just as wrong to have government steal for you as it is if you do it yourself.

I’m sure you can see the end result of this kind of activity. You will see that end by looking across the border. The destruction of the U.S., the greatest country that the world has ever seen, is already under way.

For your industry, you should strive for the elimination of the Commissar of Mines. Richard Savadel Massapequa, N.Y.
