I am disappointed that, in the Dec 8 issue of your newspaper, the Golden Giant mine (at Hemlo) did not at least get honorable mention in the leagues of big Canadian gold producers.
Production here was 65,915 oz in the third quarter (381 oz less than the Page-Williams mine), for a year- to-date figure of 193,284 oz, a total which compares favorably with both the other producers that were mentioned (the Page-Williams and Campbell Red Lake mines).
With final shaft commissioning eating into skipping time in the fourth quarter, production will be slightly off, but the yearly total should still be in the 250,000-oz range. Walter Segsworth Mine manager Golden Giant Editor’s note: It looks in fact, assuming all goes as planned, that the Golden Giant will be Canada’s top gold producer.
