Letters to the Editor Sharing finds with tax men

I would like to say how much I enjoyed your 75th-year anniversary issue. I especially enjoyed Noble Harbinson’s comments regarding the cancellation years ago of the 3-year tax-free period for new mines versus the million-dollar tax-free lotteries of today. For the uninitiated, a prospector spends his entire life pursuing his dream of discovering the “big one” only to have to share it with the tax gatherers whereas a lucky ticket holder keeps it all.

The inmates have surely taken over the insane asylum, and unless things change very soon the sacrifices our forefathers made will have been in vain. Earl MacDougall North Bay, Ont.
