Partners Rhonda Mining (RDM-A) and Noranda Mining & Exploration (NOR-T) have intersected base metals while drilling on the Epworth property in the Northwest Territories.
The 50-50 joint-venture partners are exploring the Esker claims on the 600,000-acre property, with Rhonda as operator. Prospecting and mapping surveys have found widespread sulphides, with base and precious metal values, across the project area. The mineralization occurs within a sequence of quartzites and shallow water sediments of the Epworth sedimentary basin.
The latest drill results intersected lead-zinc-silver mineralization in a cherty, stromatolite-reef complex up to 40 ft. thick.
Hole 1, drilled 400 ft. downdip of mineralized outcrop exposures, intersected 10 ft. of 3.02% lead, 2.13% zinc and 4 grams silver within a 39-ft. zone of mineralization.
Hole 2 was drilled 1,300 ft. south of the first hole and cut 9.8 ft. of 3.68% lead, 1.24% zinc and 4 grams silver within a 38-ft. zone of mineralization.
Prospecting and mapping have traced the favorable horizon over a 2-sq.-km area, with assay results pending on other drill holes. Rhonda has identified the mineralized horizon 60 miles to the south on its wholly owned 600,000-acre land package to the immediate south.
The company plans to focus on higher-grade zones of the reef complex as it continues drilling, mapping and surface sampling through September.
