Citing higher than expected throughput and recoveries, he also says that initial cash costs were lower than expected because of low cyanide consumption and improved economies of scale.
But the real story will be told when the operation moves from mining surface weathered material (saprolite) and begins processing the deeper (and harder) oxide and sulphide material. Reagent costs, particularly for cy anide, are expected to rise significantly. Cyanide costs alone could almost double. At this stage, satisfying throughput requirements from surface weathered material has been relatively simple and the easily-milled ore has yielded higher than anticipated recoveries.
