Ontario’s Minister of Mines, George Pirie, says the province has updated its mining rules to speed up permits and attract investment in critical minerals.

The provincial government passed the Building More Mines Act in record time. The regulations were finalized by April last year.

“Our focus is on matching Northern Ontario’s mineral wealth with Southern Ontario’s manufacturing power,” he said at The Northern Miner’s International Metals Symposium last month. “We’re securing supply chains and ensuring minerals are processed here.”

Ontario’s clean energy grid supports sustainability goals. The government has expanded it to meet rising demand.

“Ontario is the best partner for the U.S. to secure critical minerals for national security. We have what they need,” Pirie said.
