After 34 years, British conglomerate Lonrho has severed its links with its founder, Roland (Tiny) Rowland.
Lonrho says Rowland has ceased to be a director or employee of the company, Agence France Presse reports.
Rowland subsequently launched a lawsuit against the company for wrongful dismissal.
The company says it had been the board’s intention for Rowland to assume the role of president following the annual general meeting of March 24. It cites continuing public and irreconcilable differences as the reason for its actions.
Last year, Rowland effectively handed over the reins to German financier Dieter Bock, when he resigned his post as co-chairman.
Lonrho’s assets include a major interest in the large Ashanti gold mine in Ghana.
