Peter Munk Award: Jack and Adam Lundin
Brothers Jack and Adam Lundin, both in their 30s, are the third generation of the Lundin family’s involvement in the mining industry, succeeding their grandfather, Adolf, and their father Lukas. Founded in 1991, Lundin Mining operates mines in Argentina, Brazil, the United States, Portugal and Sweden, producing copper, zinc, nickel, gold and molybdenum.
Jack Lundin was appointed president of Lundin Mining in 2022 and took over the role of CEO in December 2023. He has extensive experience in the natural resource industry gained through exposure with several Lundin Group companies.
“We are honoured to be recognized with the Peter Munk Award,” Jack said. “We are strong supporters of the Young Mining Professionals and organizations that help foster and inspire the next generation of mining talent. We believe responsible resource development is the best catalyst for creating meaningful and lasting value for shareholders and communities alike, and by embracing new technology and ideas we can redefine the benchmark for industry excellence.”
Prior to joining Lundin Mining, Jack was president and CEO of Bluestone Resources and was involved in the highly successful development of Lundin Gold‘s (TSX: LUG) Fruta del Norte gold mine in southern Ecuador, serving as the project superintendent. He began his career in the mining sector working prospecting jobs on various early-stage projects in Canada, Russia, Ireland and Portugal.
Jack holds a B.Sc. in business administration from Chapman University in Los Angeles and a MEng. in mineral resource engineering from the University of Arizona. He currently sits on the board of directors of Lundin Gold., the Lundin Foundation, and the University of Arizona’s Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources.
Jack’s brother Adam, chair of Lundin Mining, has many years of experience in capital markets and public company management across the natural resources sector.
“Our grandfather Adolf and father Lukas both believed in the importance of surrounding yourself with great talent,” Adam said. “To be successful, you need a wide array of disciplines aligned with a team-first approach. This mindset helped build the beginnings of the Lundin Group and continues today. This award is a reflection of the support and teamwork that truly creates a successful and sustainable business.”
Adam’s background includes petroleum and mining technology, investment advisory, international finance and executive management. He began his career working for several Lundin Group mining companies in various countries before moving into finance where he was co-head of the London office for an international securities firm.
Adam is the former president and CEO of Josemaria Resources and serves as the chair of the board of directors of Filo Corp. He also serves on the board of directors of Lucara Diamond (TSX: LUC), NGEx Minerals. (TSX: NGEX, US-OTC: NGXXF), and the Lundin Foundation.
Both brothers were also recognized by The Northern Miner as Persons of the Year in 2024 in recognition of a $4.8-billion blockbuster deal they negotiated with BHP (NYSE, LSE, ASX: BHP) to acquire Filo Corp. and form a 50/50 joint venture to advance the Filo del Sol and Josemaria projects in Argentina.
