Major General makes Nfld. plans

Having received final drill results from its properties near Springdale, Nfld., Major General Resources (VSE) intends to continue exploring its 564 claims in the area.

The claims cover a 15-km strike length of the Catcher’s Pond felsic volcanic unit.

Several significant gold intersections were cut on the Rumbullion and Lochinvar prospects (part of the Rendell-Jackman property), as well as the King’s Point Option property.

On the Rumbullion, drilling tested for new gold-bearing veins and for extensions of the known vein systems. Six intersections were reported from three drill holes, the best of which averaged 2.62 oz. gold per ton over 6.6 ft., while the remainder varied from 0.12 to 0.36 oz. over widths of 3.9 to 4.6 ft.

Five other intervals were reported from the Lochinvar prospect and the King’s Point Option property. The best intercept at Lochinvar averaged 0.57 oz. over 4.3 ft., while the only intercept from the King’s Point Option assayed 0.07 oz. over 3.3 ft. All of the reported intercepts are at depths of fewer than 330 ft.

In light of the results from Rumbullion, Major General is re-interpreting the geology of this and the other vein systems on the Rendell-Jackman property. New calculations of geological reserves are expected this month. A decision on whether or not to develop the Rumbullion, in conjunction with development of the Hammerdown gold deposit, will also be made. The Hammerdown hosts 425,000 tons averaging 0.48 oz.

Meanwhile, in northwestern Ontario, Noranda Mining & Exploration (NM&E), a unit of Noranda (TSE), has completed work on Major General’s Sabin base metal property.

Since it optioned the proprety last December, NM&E has completed linecutting and deeply penetrating electromagnetic surveys. This work has outlined a deep conductor within altered felsic volcanics, which NM&E is testing with a 350-metre drill hole.
