Quebec City-based Mazarin Mining (MAZ-T) is acquiring the patents and technology of the calcium aluminate production process.
The process, in which calcium aluminate is recovered from aluminum production waste, was developed by Montreal-based Alcan Aluminum.
The process has produced, on an intermittent and semi-commercial level, high-quality calcium aluminate for use as a fluxing slag when added to molten steel. It can also be used to recover non-metallic elements in the last phases of steel production.
The acquisition, which is subject to due diligence, will enable Mazarin to construct calcium aluminate plants in Canada and other countries.
