Mining-Software Company Mintec Turns 40

With four decades under its belt, mining software consultants Mintec continue to innovate.

Founded in 1970, when computer technology was still in its infancy, Mintec developed MEDS mine consulting software to assist with geological modeling and mine planning.

By the 1990s, MEDS had gone through several name changes to become MineSight and had grown to include a variety of mining functions including solid modeling, surface modeling, advance geostatistics and numerous CAD functions.

The company has grown from a two-employee operation in Tucson, Ariz., to an international company with 132 employees and offices in eight countries.

At the PDAC convention in March, Mintec plans to introduce MineSight Torque, a data management system for drill holes that will be amalgamated into MineSight by mid-2010.
