Val d’Or, Que., company Minorca Resources (VSE) is considering a 10,000-ft. drill program for its Santa Anna property near La Sarre, Que., after encountering more high-grade gold values within the No. 1 quartz vein. Channel samples taken from the No. 1 vein have already assayed as high as 2.21 oz. gold and 0.82 oz. silver per ton (T.N.M., July 30/90).
According to Minorca, six more samples were channelled over an average width of 1.7 ft. and the best assays were 0.72 oz. gold and 1.64 oz. silver. Visible gold was also evident in three samples containing up to 10% sulphides (pyrite, chalcopyrite & galena).
“The No. 1 vein has now been opened up for about 115 ft. along strike and mineralization is consistent throughout,” said President Joel Scodnick. He has had discussions with three well-known major mining companies regarding a possible joint venture.
“It appears that a major shear zone measuring up to 1,000 ft. wide and at least 2,000 ft. long crosses the granite where all of the gold- and silver-bearing quartz veins have been found,” said Scodnick. Preparations are under way to bring a backhoe on to the property for stripping and cleaning over a 3,000-ft. area.
Meanwhile, 11 samples from Minorca’s Nicobi Lake property near Quevillon, Que., have been sent out for analysis. Of those, eight were taken from the “A” showing and contain up to 50% sulphides in the form of pentlandite-chalcopyrite-cobalt-pyrite-pyrrhotite.
