More gold found in West Timmins camp

The gold discoveries are coming thick and fast in the area centred on Thorneloe Twp., 18 km southwest of Timmins, Ont.

Band-Ore Resources (BNDR-T) has intersected a new gold zone on its Thorne property. The new zone, 1.2 km northwest of the gold prospect that is now being drilled off by Band-Ore, was found in drill hole TW96-1, which cut three zones of mineralization geologically similar to the earlier discovery.

TW96-1 intersected 3.1 metres grading 4.1 grams gold per tonne, 2.7 metres grading 3.8 grams and 3 metres grading 8.2 grams, at vertical depths of 275-325 metres. A second hole, 50 metres to the south, cut about 10 metres of similar mineralization and alteration; assay results for that hole have yet to be received.

Black Pearl Minerals (BLKP-C) has finished two drill holes in a 15-hole program at its property on the southeastern boundary of Band-Ore’s Thorne claim group. Assays are expected this week, and the company reports it encountered “a significant intersection with visible gold” in its second drill hole.

The company was drilling targets it selected using magnetic and induced-polarization surveys, along with geological mapping.

In Denton Twp., on the western boundary of Band-Ore’s property, Battle Mountain Canada (BMC-T) is drilling at a property held jointly with Gowest Amalgamated Resources (GWA-T) and Jonpol Explorations (JON-T). This past spring, two drill holes intersected gold mineralization, and follow-up holes are now being drilled to test extensions of the mineralized structures, along with other targets that appear to correlate with the Band-Ore discoveries.

One hole, drilled 100 metres east of one of last spring’s holes, cut a narrow zone grading 1.1 grams gold per tonne, but another, drilled 100 metres to the west, cut multiple intersections with gold concentrations in the range of 1-3 grams and a 1.5-metre intersection grading 29.5 grams per tonne.

Another hole, drilled downdip from the spring intersection, cut a 0.8-metre intersection grading 20.6 grams gold.

Holes drilled along strike from last spring’s other mineralized hole encountered only minor gold mineralization, but a hole drilled downdip cut 7 metres grading 4.4 grams gold, including a 0.9-metre interval grading 12.3 grams.

Results are not yet available from two holes drilled on targets in the sedimentary horizon that is believed to be the same rock unit that hosts Band-Ore’s zones. Battle Mountain has extended the program and will drill three more deep holes.

Drill-indicated mineralization along Band-Ore’s main prospect (now known as the the Golden River zone) extends for 425 metres along strike. The drill results from Band-Ore’s new zone and Black Pearl’s property imply a strike length of around 5,000 metres.

With indications that gold mineralization may be widespread in the area, Band-Ore has also moved to start drilling on the northern part of its Thorne property, where associated company Southern Africa Minerals (SAF-T) has taken an option to earn a half interest in return for spending $750,000 on exploration.
