The first hole drilled at the Boka 1 South prospect in southern China, by Southwestern Resources (SWG-T), has returned a wide zone of gold mineralization.
The recent hole, B03-06, was collared about 800 metres south of the Boka 1 North zone, where all Southwestern’s previous drilling had been done. The hole tested the southern part of a zone of high gold concentration in soils.
The drill hole intersected 90.9 metres grading 5.2 grams gold per tonne in a sulphide breccia. The intersection included a 10.7-metre interval with a gold grade of 32.4 grams per tonne. That main zone of mineralization was flanked by lower-grade mineralized rock averaging 0.6 gram per tonne over 24.6 metres above, and 1.9 grams over the 55.6 metres below.
The zone is about 500 metres down-dip from mineralization that has already been sampled in adits on the side of a hill.
A second zone of mineralization at the end of the hole ran 29.2 grams gold per tonne over 5.1 metres. Drilling problems forced Southwestern to abandon the hole in mineralization at 513 metres.
Drill hole B03-02A, collared on the northeastern slope of the same hill, cut 55.1 metres of stockwork-style material grading 2.1 grams gold per tonne. This included a 10.4-metre interval grading 3.2 grams the company had previously reported (T.N.M., May 19/03).
Southwestern is earning a 90% interest in the property from Team 209, Yunnan Nuclear Industry. It is located in Yunnan Province about 110 km north of the provincial capital, Kunming.
Four 200-kg samples of oxidized and fresh sulphides from Boka are now at Lakefield Research in Lakefield, Ont., for initial metallurgical testing. Results should be available by mid-July.
Four holes are currently being drilled on Boka 1 South and Boka 7, about 3 km further to the south. At present Southwestern is having its core samples crushed to 1.7-mm size at the Langfang Institute of Geochemical and Geophysical Exploration southeast of Beijing, and sending that material to Canada for assaying. The company is considering having an independent sample preparation lab set up in Kunming.
