Murdochville to resume production in 1989

When operations commence, mining will take place at a rate of 3,000 tonnes per day on a 5-day work week. The start-up will require the hiring of an additional 50 people, Noranda says.

The E-32 copper deposit hosts reserves of five million tonnes grading 2.77% copper per tonne and 17 g silver. A total of $53 million had already been invested in the mine before the reconstruction project began.

The division also operates a copper smelting facility with annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes per year.
