N.B. conference to focus on environmental practices

A conference focusing on environmental practices at Canadian mining operations will be held at the Hotel Beausejour in Moncton, N.B., from Sept.

25 to 26.

Entitled “Green Challenges at Mining Sites,” the discussion will evaluate the co-operative efforts of business, labor and communities to overcome obstacles to environmental protection. Three Canadian mining operations will be discussed, including: the Brunswick Mining & Smelting division of Noranda near Bathurst, N.B.; British Columbia’s Highland Valley Copper mine, held jointly by Cominco, Rio Algom, Teck and Highmont Mining; and the Musselwhite mine of Placer Dome, near Pickle Lake, Ont.

Presentations at the conference, which is jointly hosted by the Canadian Labour Market and Productivity Centre (CLMPC) and the Mining Industry Training and Adjustment Council Canada, will be made by representatives from management, labor and the community.

For more information, contact the CLMPC at 1-888-234-4422, ext. 221 or 222.
