For the second consecutive year, the Aurora gold mine of Nevada Consolidated Goldfields has been selected as the safest mine in the state by the Nevada Mining Association.
The 10-year-old operation, situated 28 miles from Hawthorne in western Nevada, won awards for being the safest small open-pit mine and the safest small underground mine.
Denver-based Nevada Consolidated recently acquired the neighboring Aurora Partnership property, which is expected to add 180,000 oz. gold to reserves at the Aurora mine.
