Gold production is about to begin again at Nevada’s Paradise Peak mine. The new owner, Arimetco International (ARX-T), acquired the operation in 1995 from FMC Gold (FGL-N).
Arimetco has contoured the heaps and refurbished the Merrill-Crowe plant, and expects to apply cyanide solutions to the Ketchup Flat heaps in June.
Processing of the Paradise Peak heaps would follow in July.
Initially, leaching will be applied to material already on the heaps.
To allow for additional ore, the heap pads will be expanded throughout the year. Mining at the Ketchup Flat pit, which hosts 5 million tons grading 0.022 oz. gold and 0.2 oz. silver per ton, will start at the beginning of 1997. Arimetco holds all necessary permits for the operation.
At the neighboring Sullivan copper-gold deposit, metallurgical tests are under way. The deposit contains 17 million tons of oxide ore grading 0.34% copper and 0.026 oz. gold, plus another 8.5 million tons grading 0.32% copper.
Arimetco plans to mine 70,000 tons per week, which would result in annual production of 18 million lb. of cathode copper and 70,000 oz. gold.
The company also operates the Yerington-MacArthur copper mine, northwest of Paradise Peak, and the Johnson Camp copper mine, in Arizona. Recently, Arimetco installed and commissioned 3-stage crushing plants at both operations.
