New BIG mine opens

The mine, located near the town of Lead, is an open pit, heap leach facility capable of producing about 43,000 oz gold annually. The Richmond Hill operation was the second gold producing property to be brought on stream by BIG during the latter half of 1988.

In September, the company began producing at the Golden Patricia mine in northern Ontario. Output at the mine of 38,000 oz is projected for fiscal 1989, 58,000 oz for 1990 and 47,000 for 1991, at estimated production costs of $284(US) per oz, $253 and $291, respectively.
