New diamond discovery in Quebec finds rare purple stones

Dianor Resources (DOR-V) and its joint-venture partners Metalex Ventures (MTX-V) and Wemindji Exploration have come across a new diamond discovery in the James Bay region of Quebec.

The diamonds — including rare purple stones –were discovered from surface rock samples on the joint venture’s Ekomiak V property and on Dianor’s adjacent 100%-owned PEM property.

A total of 856 diamonds including 16 purple diamonds were recovered from 26 surface rock samples of conglomerates that date back at least 2.7 billion years.

“Purple is one of the rarest and most desirable colours,” Dianor said in a prepared statement. “This makes the Quebec diamond discovery both unique and amongst the oldest diamond bearing occurrence in the world.”

Of the 26 conglomerate samples that had diamonds, four contained 16 purple micro diamonds with the largest sitting on a 212 micron screen with dimensions of 335 x 379 x 225 microns.

Three of the purple diamond samples were collected on the Ekomiak V property and the fourth was collected on the PEM property.

All the purple diamond samples are associated with samples having high diamond counts or about 39 to 224 diamonds per sample.

Dianor says the diamond bearing Ekomiak conglomerate extends for 15 km along strike and is up to 1 km in width on the PEM and the Ekomiak V properties, with individual outcrops about 500 metres by 400 metres in size.

In Toronto, Dianor’s shares traded up 3 apiece to close at 44 on a trading volume of 1.17 million shares.

The company has a 52-week trading range of 28.5 to $1.58.
