The company’s prefeasibility study on La Balsa considered the economics of an open-pit mine with a solvent extraction-electrowinning plant to recover oxide copper resources. The new drilling will provide a bulk sample for metallurgical testing and also provide infill data to check the earlier resource estimates.
The prefeasibility study calculated La Balsa’s resource at 24.5 million tonnes grading 0.93% copper, in all categories. Of that resource, 20.3 million tonnes grading 0.96% copper are sulphide material, and 4.2 million tonnes grading 0.78% copper are in oxide material.
