New exploration grants announced

The northern Ontario communities of Atikokan, Manitouwadge and the Beardmore-Geraldton-Longlac-Nakina area have been designated for assistance under the Ontario Mineral Incentives Program (OMIP), provincial Mines Minister Gilles Pouliot announced. OMIP provides grants to qualified companies and individuals that are carrying out exploration. The 1991 grants are equal to 30% of eligible expenses to a maximum of $300,000.

Last year, Elliot Lake and the Kirkland Lake-Timiskaming area were similarly designated; exploration projects in those two areas will receive a grant equal to 50% of eligible expenses.

Also announced by Pouliot was a $15,000 grant to Canadian geoscientists to assist with the costs of Toronto ’91, an international meeting scheduled for May 27-29 in Toronto and jointly organized by the Geological Association of Canada, Mineralogical Association of Canada and the Society of Economic Geologists.
