New GAC divisions created

The Geological Association of Canada has created three new divisions: the Canadian Geomorphology Research Group (CGRG), Remote Sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The objectives of CGRG are to promote the research, teaching and application of geomorphology in Canada. The CGRG secretariat is supported by the Geological Survey of Canada.

Originally proposed in 1993, the Remote Sensing division will provide information on the status and growing use of geological remote sensing. A significant part of its mandate will be to promote the use of remotely sensed data and provide support on how remote sensing can be managed by geologists with computing facilities.

The GIS division will promote an exchange of information about the new tools that are spreading within the geoscience community. The division will focus on a technique for linking information from disparate branches of geoscience (and other fields).
