New Horne contract

More than 700 unionized workers at the Horne division of Noranda Minerals at Rouyn-Noranda, Que., recently voted 62% in favor of a new 3-year labor contract. Salaries will have risen by about 19% by the end of the agreement. The contract includes improvements to the pension and other benefit plans. Early retirement provisions were also enhanced.

The Horne division, responsible for the operation of the Horne copper smelter, employs more than 1,000 people.
