New study planned on state mining taxes

“State tax structure is an important factor in determining whether or not a mine project is economically attractive,” said John Whitney, an economist from Reno, Nev., who is conducting the study.

The project will examine the state taxes that would be imposed on hypothetical mining operations in 18 states where mining is significant. It is an update of Whitney’s 1985 study of taxes and the mining industry.

For more information call Whitney at (702) 323-3050.
