NEWS IN BRIEF Cominco sells smelter interest

Base metal giant Cominco (TSE) recently sold its 45% interest in Mitsubishi Cominco Smelting to Japanese firm, Mitsubishi Materials Corp.

Mitsubishi Cominco was formed in 1965 with the objective of smelting high-grade lead concentrate from Cominco’s Pine Point mine in the Northwest Territories. The mine was closed in 1988 and stockpiled concentrate is expected to be depleted by the end of this year.
