NEWS ROUNDUP — Falco hits deep gold at Zimbabwe mine

A drill hole at Falconbridge Gold’s (TSE) Blanket Mine Complex in Zimbabwe has intersected 2.04 oz. gold per ton, or 0.49 oz. (cut to 0.6 oz.) over an estimated true width of 9.4 ft.

Hole WRE-1, one of three holes drilled as part of a feasibility study to expand production at the mine, hit the gold mineralization 3,200 ft. below surface on the downdip extension of the mine’s Eroica section. “Borehole WRE-1 suggests Eroica could make a significant contribution to profitability for the next 10-15 years,” the company said in a prepared release.

The Blanket mine, with reserves of about one million tons grading 0.13 oz., has been operating since 1965. The Eroica orebody was discovered in 1987 and is being mined above the 750-ft. level.
