More drilling, beginning in the spring, is planned for the Lucky Smoke gold zone in Newfoundland.
New Island Minerals (ASE) of St. John’s wants to test the strike extension of the zone north to the Keystone prospect (1,000 ft. distant). During a drilling program completed last November, all holes that stepped out along strike from the zone’s discovery hole intersected the strike extension of the zone.
That drilling included three shallow holes which extended the strike length to 150 ft. and one deeper hole, drilled to 300 ft., which also cut the zone across a true width of 22 ft.
The company says the overall dimensions of the zone, based on drilling to date, indicate that both strike and downdip extensions of 150 ft. are open in all directions. The average grade is reported as 0.13 oz. gold per ton over widths ranging between 18 and 25 ft.
