Northern Mineral Explorations has started a second phase of drilling on its gold property in northwestern Quebec’s Matagami Lake area.
Two drill rigs are on the Isle- Dieu Twp. property now, says President Jean-Guy Cotnoir, and the company expects to complete about 12,000 ft of surface drilling by late February.
An over-all evaluation of results from all drilling done in 1985 and 1986 will be done in the first quarter of this year.
“We have gold values all over the place in every quartz fracture found on surface and in the drilling as well within an area a mile long by almost half a mile wide,” says Bernard Borduas, the company’s project manager and vice-president exploration. “So far, we have not found the key to the complex structure.”
Best values from nearly 20,000 ft of drilling done on the Marcelle vein include 0.41 oz gold per ton over 8.5 ft and 0.085 oz over 15.4 ft. The vein has been traced to a vertical depth of 850 ft.
Work planned for 1987 includes more deep drilling on the Marcelle vein and exploration drilling on numerous geophysical anomalies throughout the property. Northern also has a gold property in Landrienne Twp. near A mos and a base metals property in Le Tac Twp. under option to FinNeth Exploration.
