Northern Orion (NNO-T) has announced a new resource estimate for its Campana Mahuida copper-gold deposit in western Argentina.
Based on 107 drill holes and a cutoff grade of 0.25% copper, the geologic resource is now pegged at 76.1 million tonnes grading 0.439% copper and 0.125 gram gold per tonne.
The estimate includes a primary resource estimate of 31 million tonnes grading 0.319% copper and 0.131 gram gold, and 45.15 million tonnes of leachable material grading 0.513% copper and 0.121 gram gold.
About 75% of the resource is classified as measured, and 24% as indicated, according to classifications of the U.S. Geologic Survey.
Northern Orion believes 14.7 million tonnes grading 0.185% copper (comprising mostly copper oxides) are amenable to dump leaching.
Metallurgical tests are attempting to confirm previous leach results, which will be incorporated into a preliminary feasibility study. The company envisages a low-cost heap-leach operation employing solvent
extraction-electrowinning.
