Nineteen of the first batch of 20 till samples collected by Poplar Resources (PPX-V) on its Nottaway diamond project in the James Bay lowlands of Quebec, have returned kimberlite indicator minerals.
Included in the 192 picked grains are: eight chrome-pyropes, one chrome-poor pyrope, six magnesium-ilmenites and six forsterite grains. All of the chrome-pyropes are broken, fresh grains. Electron microprobe analysis of the chromites and chrome-pyropes will begin shortly.
The samples were collected down ice from two aeromagnetic targets.
Results for the remaining till and stream samples are expected shortly.
Drilling on the Nottaway project, including some targets beneath lakes, is slated for early 2002.
The news sent Poplar shares up 2 or nearly 15.5% to 15 in afternoon trade on the Canadian Venture Exchange on Jan.2, 2002.
