John Morgan, an industrial minerals geologist, died recently. He was 76. Born in Winnipeg, Man., Morgan had a B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
From 1940 to 1945, Morgan was superintendent of high explosives for the Defence Industries Ltd. plant at Nitro, Que. In 1945, he joined the R.P. Mills group and was in charge of exploration and development projects in the Chibougamau area of Quebec. He then worked for Baker Talc Ltd. in Quebec and in 1969 became president.
In more recent years, Morgan assisted in the discovery of gold and polymetallic deposits in the maritime provinces, for example, lead-zinc at Gays River, N.S., tin in Yarmouth, N.S., and gold at Elmtree, N.B., and Mooseland, N.S.
