The Ontario Mining Association (OMA) plans to distribute NickelQuest, its virtual mine tour program, to classrooms across the province.
The program, aimed at educating young people about mining, is being distributed with the most recent issue of Mining Matters, a newsletter published by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
NickelQuest aims to educate teachers, librarians and students alike about all facets of mining — from safety to environmental obligations.
The video takes viewers on an adventure through a mine in Sudbury, Ont. Animated by Waterloo, Ont.-based eSolutions Group, NickelQuest was launched in 2007 at Dynamic Earth’s Atlas Copco Theatre in Sudbury. A positive response by the area’s elementary school students that viewed it inspired the OMA to push onwards with the project.
Mining Matters has committed to distributing 10,000 copies of the program in an attempt to reach every school with Grades seven through nine.
