Partners cut more kimberlite at Tichegami (August 07, 2002)

Drilling by Pure Gold Minerals (PUG-T) has cut a second kimberlite body on the Tichegami project in Quebec’s Otish mountains region.

The discovery hole targeted a well-defined airborne and ground magnetic anomaly some 350 metres southeast of the first kimberlite pipe discovered in April.

The discovery hole, drilled at an azimuth of 45 at a dip of -70, cut 123 metres of kimberlite under 15 metres of cover. A second hole drilled in the opposite direction and at a dip of 45 cut the edge of the kimberlite body. Magnetic surveying suggests that the kimberlite, dubbed H-2, is a dyke-like body and that the discovery hole intersected it at its northern end.

Field observations suggest three distinct phases of kimberlite, possibly of different ages. The core also surrendered purple pyrope, chrome diopside and ilmenite.

In April, drilling cut 118 metres of a breccia intrusion under 20 metres of cover. The hole was shut down while still in the rock unit at 138 metres of depth. The body proved barren of diamonds.

Selected samples of the latest core will be sent for evaluation initially for diamonds and kimberlite indicator minerals.

Pure Gold is earning a 60% interest in the 81-sq.-km property from Ditem Explorations (DIT-V) by spending $1 million over three years.
