Partners test PGE showings

Hoping to outline a platinum group metals deposit, Wolfden Resources (YWO-V) and Jonpol Explorations (JON-T) have acquired a 2.6-sq.-km parcel of ground in the Thunder Bay region of Ontario.

The pair staked 13 claims and have signed a letter of intent for the Sapawe and Nickleby Offset properties. The claims cover ultramafic intrusive rocks thought to be prospective for copper, nickel and platinum group elements (PGEs).

At the Nickleby claims, previous sampling by government geologists returned 1.73 grams palladium, 0.29 gram platinum and 0.19 gram gold per tonne. The showing, measuring 500 by 200 metres, is a coarse-grained ultramafic spotted with pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite.

Also, five samples of rubble from a nearby road were highlighted by 1.77% copper, 0.27% nickel, 1.56 grams platinum, 1.99 grams palladium and 0.56 gram gold.

Three samples from the Whit area returned up to 0.36% copper, 0.05% nickel, 1.02 grams platinum, 1.29 grams palladium and 0.35 gram gold.

More recently, an outcrop, discovered 300 metres south of the intrusion’s magnetic expression, yielded 0.24 gram platinum-palladium-gold per tonne. Results are pending for samples taken east of the Sapawe complex, where chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite mineralized were discovered.
