Partners test Renard 65 at depth

A 15-hole winter drilling program on the Foxtrot property in north-central Quebec, has cut the newly dubbed Renard 65 kimberlitic intrusion at a maximum depth 294 metres below surface.

In late April, drilling by Ashton Mining of Canada (ACA-T) and Soquem confirmed that the Renard 5 and 6 kimberlitic intrusions comprise a single body with a surface area of at least 1.5 hectares.

The latest round of drilling on Renard 65 included three vertical and 12 angled holes. The three vertical holes terminated in kimberlitic material at depths of 231, 284 and 294 metres, respectively. The angled holes reached as deep as 230 metres and suggest a minimum strike length of 300 metres for Renard 65.

The winter program also saw the collection of mini-bulk samples (totalling 26.5 tonnes, 18 tonnes from Renard 65) from Renard 2,3,4 and 65. Results from processing the Renard 4 and 65 samples through the dense media separation in North Vancouver are expected before the end of July. A summer drill program on Renard 2 and 3 is being considered.

The winter drill campaign also saw Renard 8 tested by two holes drilled across the body from the northeast. The first hole, angled at 50, cut kimberlitic from 52-59 metres and 91-123 metres below surface before terminating in country rock at 167 metres. The second hole, drilled at 60, returned kimberlitic breccia from 65-123 metres. This hole was stopped in kimberlitic material because of drilling problems.

Results of caustic fusion of kimberlite from Renard 8 and 9 are expected in the third quarter.
